Legal Aid for All is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to provide legal services for all Georgians, regardless of their incomes. Unlike the other legal aid organizations, Legal Aid for All provides free legal advice to everyone, not just people who are deemed indigent or fall near the poverty line. In addition to providing free legal advice and answering questions, if clients want to retain one of our lawyers, reduced fees are charged to clients on a sliding scale, with those who are indigent paying nothing for services and the low to middle income people paying only a small fraction of regular legal fees. We believe that the “working poor” and most of “middle America” have been left out, with no help from the government or most charitable organizations. With lawyers commonly charging from $250 -$750 per hour in Georgia, most working families simply cannot afford to hire lawyers to represent them, unless they are involved in some type of personal injury case or similar matter that would entice a lawyer to take their case on a contingent fee basis in which the client pays no fees unless the lawyer recovers money for the client, and then the lawyer takes 331/3% - 50% of the settlement.
Legal Aid for All currently has six attorneys, who offer free or reduced fees for clients on an extremely broad range of legal issue from A to Z, including: ADA, arbitration, appeals, bankruptcy, bond hearings, business law, civil rights, consumer protection, contract disputes, contract drafting, criminal defense, custody, debtor’s rights, divorce, domestic violence, elder law, employment contracts, employment discrimination, employment benefits, fair housing, family law, garnishment, HIPAA, immigration, incorporations, jury trials, kidnapping, landlord-tenant, mediation, non-compete/non-disclosure, OSHA, overtime compensation, personal injury, premises liability, QTIP trusts, real estate, sexual violence & harassment, tax, Title VII, unemployment benefits, veteran benefits, wage & hour law, workers’ compensation, xystus liability, youth rights, zoning, and more!
The average hourly rates for attorneys in Metro Atlanta have risen to $250 -$550 per hour, with some attorneys charging as much as $1,500 per hour. At these rates, very few people can afford to hire attorneys to litigate their cases, or even just answer their basic legal questions.
Although there are a few organizations that will provide free advice and representation, they do so, only for specific types of cases, and only if the clients total household income is less than 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Legal Aid for All provides free thirty (30) minute consultations for everyone, regardless of financial status, plus offers further representation of clients on a sliding scale from $25 to $100 per hour, based upon income level.
The following charts outlines the basic fee schedules, based upon 2019 Federal Poverty Guidelines. These fees are subject to change depending upon the specific circumstances of certain cases, and they do not include costs/expenses of litigation. Clients will be required to provide proof of income to qualify for these hourly rates. Of course, no client will be forced to agree to fees that they cannot afford, and some clients might only have to pay costs/expenses, and some clients may not pay anything for our legal services.
